Two Los Angeles police officers question a suspected drug dealer and a Korean-American woman after finding a small quantity of speed and a smoking pipe in their van on August 3, 2006 in the Wilshire neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. The area is known for it's violent hispanic gangs and a flourishing drug trade. LAPD officers at the scene became interested after seeing the suspect run away from his van abandoning the female passenger. The police assume the male was making a purchase in a nearby house and hid the drugs. The woman is out on parole and could face a parole violation for the drug possession and being out after curfew. Hispanic street gangs compete for the lucrative drug trade with the majority of the profits going to the Mexican mafia. Los Angeles violent crime rates, traditionally one of the highest in California, have recently fallen as figures show a shift by criminals to outlying counties where real estate prices are more affordable.
